Berry Picking 2011!!

Kelly and Colby came up from SF for our annual berry picking and jam making extravaganza. The season was late this year since summer started out so cool, so even in early August there were barely raspberries ripe and no blackberries. So we loaded up on blueberries and raspberries, and the jam is oh so good. Cora loved crawling under the blueberry bushes and picking handfuls!

July 2011: Camping and Cora's First Band

Cora has an awesome time sleeping in the tent at the Cherry's big backyard summer campout. There were lots of other kids for her to follow around, including Hawkeye Huey. Hawkeye and Cora made some music on Quentin's sweet synth and drum set up.

On Deck Summer 2011

One of our favorite summer hangouts is On Deck, a sports bar that has great umbrella tables on a huge patio where Cora can run around while mommy and daddy drink beer. One afternoon there was a professional photographer there shooting an event, and he caught these adorable shots of Cora.

June trip to Tulsa

We had a great time in Tulsa in June. Daniel went to do a book talk, and we got to spent time with the cousins (Hazel, Hayden, and Ivy on the way), grandparents, greats, aunties, and more...

A lot of catching up to do in blog-land! Here are a few shots from early summer. Daddy's new book came out, and Cora is obviously an avid reader and huge fan. She also discovered the joys of spaghetti.

Notes on talking

Cora has been saying some repeated and single syllable words for a while now: Mama, Dada, Buh or Buhbuh (for Bucky), Chee (cheese or cheek), eye, hi, yeah, ball, etc. And she has perfected a number of animal noises which I don't think count as words even though they are sometimes uncannily accurate.

But last night she made a major shift in speech development. We were finishing up her bath, and I said "time to say goodbye to the water". A couple minutes later, Cora says "Byebye wawa!" Officially a two-word phrase! And then we were reading an ABC book and she said "apple tree", and was so proud of her ability to say apple that she kept saying it over and over again. It is always funny to me that I am so surprised when she starts doing something new like this, even though it is obviously just a normal part of development. But really, since when does our little baby say multi-syllabic words?! I guess since yesterday. It is such a joy to watch her communicate.

Busy summer

Cora is so grown up lately! Feeding her baby, washing her own face, talking on the phone, eating ice cream... Here are the latest phone pics.

1 year check up

Cora had her 12 month well child visit a couple weeks ago. When the nurse said that we were going to see how big she was, Cora instantly threw her arms up in the air to say "So big!" She is 50th percentile for height and 25th for weight. I've also been surprised lately to hear more and more word-like things coming out of her mouth! She said "gentle" when she was petting Bucky the other day, and is interested in copying sounds that I make. Daniel often yells at the cats when they get up on things they aren't supposed to get on, like the table or by the fish bowl. Cora has started acting as a misbehaving cat alarm, and whenever the cats are getting up on things she points and yells "Cat! Cat! Cat!" Pretty hilarious.

Cora turns 1

Cora's first birthday party was a blast, with a kitty cake, balloons, friends and family and awesome presents.
